Toxic Environment
The most dangerous concern about plastic waste, especially polybags, is how hard it will degrade in natural condition. Excessive use of polymer products without proper collecting and recycling will result in an escalation of unprocessed waste in the environment, called “white pollution” – which will cost over thousands of years to fully decompose, while affecting our water source, soils and air every day.
Impairing the animal ecology
Every year, about 8 millions of plastic waste from coastal countries is distributed to the oceans. Birds, fish, and many other underwater animals are either directly or indirectly killed by floating rubbish, widely known to cause oceanwide injuries and hunger. Over 700 different species, including critically endangered ones, are reported to be affected by marine pollution. The ocean ecology is now seriously at risk.
Climate Change
Over 300 tons of plastic waste is annually dumped to the environment. It is one of the key factors contributing to the gradual worldwide pollution, worsening the climate change. For instance, carbon emissions, the byproduct of waste decomposition, amp up the already concerning global warming, which leads to the increase in natural disasters
Effects to Humans
Research has proven that 50.000 microbeads, which is equal to a debit card, are consumed each year per human. If plastic waste is poorly processed, microbeads will be released, directly damaging human health. Cancers, endocrine disorders, immunodeficiency, are some prime examples of how it will impair our biological system – an extreme warning to the modern era.
